Advanced Exergy Analysis of Ultra-Low GWP Reversible Heat Pumps for Residential Applications

Exergy-based methods provide engineers with the best information respect to options for improving overall thermodynamic efficiency of an energy conversion system. This paper presents results advanced exergy analysis air-to-water reversible heat pump whose performance was analyzed different working fluids. Environmentally deleterious refrigerants, i.e., R410A and R134a (baselines), their eco-friendly replacements (R290, R152a, R1234ze(E), R1234yf) were selected. The evaluations conducted under same operating conditions (i.e., cooling heating demands outdoor temperatures). Based on conventional analysis, it determined that priorities should be given improvement components according which modes system are in use. Therefore, integrated parameters, annual values destruction, applied further analysis. obtained showed using provided largest degree destruction estimated basis (5913 kWh), whereas R290 offered lowest one (4522 kWh). cycle only unavoidable irreversibilities could decreased by 50%. In this case, compared R134a, R152a lower total aspects destruction.
